Morellino

Region / Location:
Magliano in Toscana/ Pereta near Scansano

The varieties:
85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and small quantities of Montepulciano and Canaiolo

Character:
Poggio Nibbiale’s Morellino di Scansano is a fruity red wine, good and easy to drink, universally enjoyable.

Sensory analysis:
Intense scent of cherry, with notes of prune and red berries. Such fruity character continues on the palate and joins with a creamy body. The finish is dominated by the very typical mineral notes of Poggio Nibbiale’s terroir. Thanks to a rather soft tannin to be a Morellino, it is an easy to drink wine.

Vinification:
Selective hand-picking, destemming followed by maceration in stainless steel tanks, with regular pumping. The pressing is traditionally carried out with a piston press. Follows a year of aging in used wooden barrels.

The terroir:
Most of the grapes come from the South-West slopes overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Both the soil and the air are characterized by a high minerality that influences the wine character.

Serving temperature: 16°C – 18°C
Aging potential: 5 years +
Production: ca. 40.000 bottles

Special recommendation:
It is a classic wine for pizza and pasta, suitable both for snacks and full-bodied dishes; most of all, it is a perfect BBQ wine.

Suggestion:
Try this Morellino cold, at 12-13°C with light dishes such as fish ones.
